1836:  Henry P. Barton, 80 acres [Chambers County, Alabama Tract Book, by Ruth Royal Crump, p. 114]

12-25-1837:  Enoch Barton & Rebecca Mitchum.  Enoch Barton made application for licenses to marry Rebecca Mitchum, gave bond and security.  Licenses returned with certificate thereon in the wrds and figures following, to wit; I, Willis Barton, Justice of the Peace do hereby certif y that I solemized rites of matrimony between Enoch Barton and Rebecca Mitchum this day.  Given under my hand and seal the 31st day of December A D 1836.  Willis Barton, JP.  John Mitchum gave consent.  According to a descendant of Enoch, he was born in 1819 in Edgefield Co., SC.

1838:  According to a 1980 letter from Ruth Crump, guardianship records of Barthena Barton, child of Presley Barton, late of Morgan Co., GA, deceased, are on file at the Chambers Co., AL courthouse.  William Barton, of Chambers Co., was appointed Barthena's guardian.   Mrs. Crump also mentioned in the letter that Barthena later married James B. Weaver.

I am looking for Enoch Joshua BARTON (Jr.) and his family. Enoch was the son of Enoch Joshua Barton born in Edgefield County, SC. This is what I know:

Enoch was born 1850 in either Randolph or Chambers County, AL. He married M.C. ________ (maiden name unknown). She is listed on one census record as Catherine, on the death record as Mrs. Barton, on her headstone has M.C. and on her daughter's medical records as Cassandra. Several great aunt and uncles say her maiden name was WATWOOD. I have not found documented proof of this.

They had the following children:

  1. Ocia Daniel "O.D." Barton born 1876 in Randolph County, AL he married Ola Bailey
  2. Katie (Catie - Prudence) Belle Barton born 1879 in Randolph County, AL   Never Married
  3. Jewel Oscar "Oscar" Barton born 1882 in Randolph County, AL Never Married
  4. Clara Myrtle Barton born 1885 in Randolph County, AL married Thomas Bailey (Ola and Thomas "Tom" were cousins)
  5. Enoch Joshua "EJ" Barton born 1888 in Randolph County, AL married Mollie Bowen
  6. Infant Daughter Barton born and died 1892 (only lived 2 days)
  7. S. Fountain "Frank" Barton born 1894 in Randolph County, AL married Allie   _________ (maiden name unknown)

M.C., their mother died when Frank was 3 months old.

Enoch (Jr.) also know as "Babe" was a Justice of the Peace in Randolph County, AL.
